We had spent all day trying to see Mt. Fuji mostly to no avail. Cloud cover was thick and wasn't letting up. One of my companions had taken a train out from Tokyo specifically to see it, and he was determined. There are live cams of Fuji, and he pulled them all up at lunch. We found one that didn't have cloud cover, but it was a 40 minute drive out of our way and would close within 10 minutes of our arrival time. We talked it over and decided, like midwest tornado hunters, we were going to chase down a good view of Mt. Fuji. We were off.
The drive over was beautiful—a windy road along the lake, through the mountains, under canopies of Japanese maple, with signs of Fuji popping up here and there. We arrived at the destination, Peter Rabbit's English Garden, unsure where the viewing platform was or where to go. We got out of the car, ran over, and then we saw this. We had successfully chased the clouds around Mt. Fuji just in time for golden hour.
