The personification of Judiasm in medieval Christian art, Synagoga, depicted (according to Yvette Alt Miller at the Jewish Ledger) as ragged and defeated, stands at the entrance to Notre Dame. Along with Ecclesia, a statue on the other side of the entrance depicting a well-dressed woman in a crown holding a chalice and unbroken scepter, they represent the Christian belief of supersessionism.
Being Jewish myself, I find the depiction of the pair fascinating; a story told by one people for themselves using imagery and metaphor steeped in their own beliefs, about another people, to degrade and humiliate, etched forever in stone on their own house of worship.
